Kristie and I were talking yesterday while driving home from some appointments in the bay area about the grief she felt after losing her mom and grandparents in such a short amount of time when she asked me what it felt like to grieve a parent who is still alive. Truthfully, I’ve never thought about it as grief, but it is, and it does hurt, especially when you try to reconnect and they, and their new family continue to throw a mental beatdown on you. But that pain is quickly overpowered when I remind myself that God is still working on them and that all I can do is keep myself, and the family He has blessed me with, safe from them, while praying for Him to soften their hearts. I also find comfort from hope I now have in Christ that has filled the void in my heart and from the love my Father, family, and friends have for me! If you are feeling lost, hurt, or lonely, I would like to encourage you to read my story because the hope that I found is there for you too! Keep on keeping on,Jason Sautel Rescuerbook.com

Kristie said this to me twenty years ago after we had just met. I was at my lowest point in life as a young fireman and felt like I had no where to turn for help. Cool thing is, the hope she planted in my heart that day is still alive, and growing even stronger. ❤️Keep on keeping on,Jason Sautel Rescuerbook.com

“Remember me?” The question came from a young lady who was enjoying a cup of coffee near me in my local Barnes and Noble cafe.I took a sip of my own drink and looked at her over the rim of my cup, hoping to buy myself time to think. I had no idea who she was. Thankfully she answered her own question before things got awkward. “You guys were the fire station that responded to me, back when I was at my lowest. I remember you.”Suddenly it clicked. I could picture her, but in far different settings. I had helped her while she lay sprawled in a filthy alley, overdosed on drugs. I’d put a blanket around her shoulders while one of my buddies evaluated the bruises on her face and disinfected her split lip. She’d never had a place to live that we knew of, and we figured she had a pimp. Each time we found ourselves helping her, we would lovingly point her to resources that might get her off the streets. I knew the odds were stacked against her, though. I guessed she would end up like the majority of the other girls we responded to, girls the world had cast aside. But I also remembered silently praying for her on the way back to the firehouse.“I just wanted to say thanks,” she said. “You and the other guys saved me. I’m in a program now, and off the streets. Things are turning around.” I smiled, and we made some small talk. I was stoked for her! But I knew something that she didn’t yet: it was Jesus who had saved her. Healing is Jesus’s passion. When He sees hurting people, He loves them, and saves them. It doesn’t matter how bruised or broken we are: Jesus can heal us.From my new book, “Jesus is All We Need: Devotions to Experience the Rescuing Love of God.” You can order your copy today! I woke up to an email from a fireman who decided to throw a verbal beatdown on me for being worse than a jehovah witness when it comes to proclaiming my faith. I also got a point blank email telling me that I need to alter my story to make it more relatable to the public and that because I wasn’t a NYT bestseller, it was in my best interest to just walk away from the money and work we’ve already put into turning my memoir into a film. (Praise God for teammates like Autumn Bailey-Ford for having my back in this area ❤️) I had a couple of other messages that were totally depressing too, and to top it off, I was blessed with a sleepless night full of some awesome nightmares from my childhood and failures as a fireman. I even snapped at Kristie for no reason when I woke up from one of them shortly after I’d fallen asleep and she was still awake. Anyways, as you can see, this morning started off like crap and what really sucks is that I won’t be home for two more days, so Daisy (pic below) isn’t around to sit in my lap as I sort everything out…oof. But check this out…Instead of replying to each issue individually I went to my Bible and prayer to help sort them out. While looking into the face of our loving Father and listening to His reply(s), which is what happens when we open our Bibles and read, this is what came to me…Being in the firehouse and responding to other peoples tragedies is something I miss, beyond my simple, uneducated, words can properly explain. I would gladly hand back the books I’ve written, delete every speech I’ve given, crumple up every article ever written about me, delete my social media accounts, and fade off into the sunset, because this job can straight suck on so many levels at times! But just like the emergencies God had me respond to as a fireman He’s also given me this new line of work and it’s my job to steward it in a way that will honor Him. And constantly reminding myself that my joy isn’t found in the outcomes, instead, it’s found in my obedience to Him, while knowing the outcomes are up to Him, is a must—even though it’s freaking hard! Anyways, I gotta get back to the hotel and say sorry to Kristie, and buy her something sweet, but here’s my encouragement to you— People are messed up! Both you, me and everyone! So don’t listen to their negativity nor the negativity you are pouring onto yourself! Instead, keep on keeping on with the work God has given you and find joy in obediently doing it, while knowing he will handle the outcomes, and the jerks discouraging you! When it comes to dealing with the lost, hurt, and lonely people I am blessed to engage with on a daily basis who are not followers of Christ, I like to sit quietly and think about the ways I rebelled against God before Jesus rescued me. It helps get me in the right mindset by reminding me what a gracious response should look like because I never deserved grace, still don’t—but God offered it anyways. Colossians 3:12 ESV Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patienceKeep on keeping on,Jason Sautel Rescuerbook.com

When I was a kid, I lived in a small duplex style house that was filthy inside and out. It had fist-sized holes in the walls, was infested with co*ckroaches, and our furniture was made up of handouts and roadside freebies. The one time we did have carpet instead of bare floors, it was full of stains and wreaked of smoke because my dad got it from an elderly person who was getting new carpet in their single-wide, and instead of sending it to the dump, my dad offered to take it away for free, and he put it our dump…I mean we carpeted our house with it. My bed was a dirty mattress on the floor— It looked (and smelled) just like the mattresses in the large homeless encampment over on Wood St, in my district in Oakland. If I properly described the kitchen and bathroom, it would sicken you, so I will just move on. As a preteen, I swore to myself that one day, if I actually made it to one day because I wanted to leave this world back then, I would buy a house and make it perfect inside and out! Which I did! Once I became a fireman, I bought a house and straight pimped it out Martha Stewart style! My clean and perfectly decorated and furnished abode was basically a middle finger to the filth of my past! But check this out—It was just as dark and sad inside as the house I grew up in and I was just as miserable because it was void of God’s love. Here’s the deal…After living a life separated from God for the first twenty-eight years of my life while also living in both filth, and the exact opposite of filth, during those years, I can honestly say that I would rather live in the poorest neighborhood and house with Jesus, than live in a mega-mansion void of His love. Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.If you are feeling void of God’s love, I would like to encourage you to add my new devotional to your daily routine. “Jesus Is All We Need: Devotions to Experience the Rescuing Love of God”— https://a.co/d/4XBVDQTKeep on keeping on,Jason Sautel
